The Eiffel Tower is a wrought-iron lattice tower on the Champ de Mars in Paris. It is named after the engineer Gustave Eiffel. The 324 meter tower was the world’s tallest structure when it was built as the entrance to the 1889 World Fair. The tower’s three levels house restaurants, cafes, gift shops and several observation decks that overlook the whole of Paris.
The Matterhorn is a mountain in the Pennine Alps on the border between Switzerland and Italy. The Matterhorn is one of Europe’s highest summits at 4,478 meters or 14,692 feet. For mountaineers, there is no greater challenge. If you are a skier or snowboarder, then there is no place like the Zermatt Ski resorts. Breathtaking, fresh, clean air mark the splendor of the Swiss Alps.
Italy’s ‘Floating City’ has a wealth of beauty, romance and history. Over 150 canals run through Venice, connecting 118 tiny islands via some 400 bridges and walkways. There are charming alleyways and hidden courtyards giving plenty of examples of Gothic and Renaissance architecture.
Built in 70AD, it was the world’s largest amphitheater, holding up to 80,000 spectators. Although most famous as the site for gladiator fights, an iconic symbol of Imperial Rome, the Colosseum was also home to many other shows and impressive re-enactments.
Over the past two centuries, the gate has been at the center of many historical events that shaped Germany and arguably the world. It was used as a Nazi symbol and survived World War II. Years later it became the unofficial border between East and West Berlin until the Berlin Wall fell in 1989.
Once an imperial palace, home to kings and emperors of the Holy Roman Empire, the Hofburg is now the official residence of Austria’s President. A massive 240,000 square meter building is divided into 18 wings, 11 courtyards and over 2,500 rooms. It is bound to impress!
